Signs you might notice

You are tired, sleeping too much or too little, or struggling to concentrate
You feel hopeless, worthless or like a burden to others
You are withdrawing from friends and family

How I can help

Depression can make it hard to believe that things can change, so my first job is to listen and to understand what you are carrying. Together we look at what may be contributing, including loss, stress, relationship strain, life changes and long-held beliefs about yourself.

We then work on small, realistic steps: reconnecting with people and activities, shifting harsh self-talk, and building routines that support your mood. I may also encourage you to talk with your doctor, because depression can have physical contributors and sometimes medication is part of the answer.

Progress is often gradual. Having someone beside you through it can make a real difference.

When to reach out

If low mood has lasted more than a couple of weeks, or is getting in the way of work, family or daily life, it is a good time to reach out. If you are ever in immediate danger, call 911, and if you are in crisis, call or text 988.

Counseling that can help

When life feels heavy, or you are not sure what to do next, individual counseling gives you room to say what you are feeling and make sense of it. I have worked with individuals for more than 35 years.

No one plans to struggle with chemical dependency, alcohol abuse or drug abuse, and it can happen to anyone. Counseling can be a first step toward sobriety and a life that feels like yours again. I have worked with people in recovery and their families for more than 35 years.

If your faith is part of who you are, it can be part of your counseling too. I bring the same professional care to every client and welcome faith into the conversation when you want it there.

Approaches I draw on

Practical tools for changing thoughts and habits that keep you stuck.

Making room for hard feelings while moving toward what matters to you.

Improving mood by improving your relationships.

Paying attention to the present moment to reduce worry and low mood.

Understanding how your past shapes your present.
