Compassion-focused therapy helps people who are harshly self-critical learn to meet their struggles with understanding. It draws on the idea that we are wired to calm and soothe ourselves through kindness.
What a session looks like
We notice the inner critic, understand what it is trying to protect, and practice calming exercises and a kinder inner voice. Progress is gradual and practiced between sessions.
Who it can help
Self-criticism, shame, perfectionism, anxiety and depression.
About my training
In my work I draw on ideas from Compassion-Focused Therapy, along with other methods suited to each person.
When life feels heavy, or you are not sure what to do next, individual counseling gives you room to say what you are feeling and make sense of it. I have worked with individuals for more than 35 years.
